Mockingly nicknamed "Deku" by childhood classmate and former bully Katsuki Bakugo, Izuku would later save him from a villain, in turn winning over the interest of All Might, Izuku's childhood idol and #1 hero, who in turn passes down his sacred One For All quirk to him. High School, Izuku's classmate Ochaco Uraraka inspires him to embrace his nickname and he uses it as his hero name. In order to protect his own body, particularly his arms, Izuku eventually develops his own unique fighting style, diverging himself further from All Might's. During his final battle with Tomura, his respirator and at least one of his Mid-Gauntlets are destroyed. His right arm also ends up covered in black coils as a result of overusing Full Cowl and Blackwhip from within his body to repair his broken tendons.

The restaurant’s eclectic menu is paired with a boutique wine list and 1950s-inspired seasonal cocktails. Many My Hero Academia characters went through multiple iterations and sketches in order to nail the perfect look, while others went through little to no changes at all from their conception to their final design. Years ago, creator Kohei Horikoshi began his work with My Hero Academia as a one-shot that readers knew as My Hero. It was there fans met plenty of characters including the star we'd come to know as Izuku. The prototype version of Deku was named Mikumo Akatani, and it goes without saying the boy looked different at first.
My Hero Academia Sets Up an Emotional Quirkless Showdown
By the time of the Final War, even though Izuku becomes outmatched by Tomura's power, with One For All vulnerable to be stolen and the villain on the verge of destroying Mt. Fuji, Izuku still won't give up and and stands against Tomura with no sign of fear. His willpower was so motivated that even with his muscles being torn and suffering through Gearshift's recoil backlash, Izuku still keeps on fighting through. Even within the realm of One For All, and All For One, Izuku's extraordinary willpower was so strong that he was able to withstand against Tomura's immense hatred inside of his core, and make Tomura bend to his will in the final battle. Even after losing his arms, and All For One taking back control of Tomura, Izuku refused to give up fighting. After the Paranormal Liberation War, Yo Shindo notices the change and development of Izuku's willpower, stating that he gives off a totally different vibe. Even when Izuku went to confront All For One in the Haibori Woods mansion, he only showed his anger-filled eyes and determination of defeating him.

After multiple months of hard work and training with the No. 1 Pro Hero Endeavor, Izuku has become much sturdier and resilient when it comes to the drawbacks of his Quirk, allowing him to withstand the recoil from 100% attacks without being instantly incapacitated. He has also shown an even greater pain threshold, when he managed to endure multiple smash attacks at 100% and attacks from Tomura while still standing. Izuku externalizes his observations through endless mumbling, a habit that annoys or creeps out his peers. Izuku often writes down his observations in a variety of notebooks he titles as Hero Analysis for the Future; he checks on them regularly during school activities, during his free time, or at night.
As the battle drags on, an "X" starts to rip in front of his face as a result of using Blackwhip inside his body, and his upper suit is destroyed after the onslaught of attacks. Most of Gran Torino's cape is also ruined, and eventually completely destroyed by Tomura. Following his fight with Lady Nagant, Izuku's left arm Mid-Gauntlet is partially destroyed, leaving it practically useless. After the explosion at All For One's mansion in Haibori Woods, Izuku gains an overall monstrous appearance that is stained in blood and filth. His costume, cape, and gloves become more damaged and torn, his respirator appears to have gathered rust and chipped edges, and his iron soles becoming crooked like talons.

The same goes for his superhero suit as Mikumo donned a bunny-inspired costume back in the day, but it has more gadgets than we are familiar with. This prototype design makes Mikumo look more emo than Deku came to be, so this darker vision was lightened in the end. Later, an impressed All Might meets up with Izuku and tells him that he wants him to inherit his quirk "One for All". Izuku accepts the offer and after ten months of training by All Might in order to prove his worth (in that time, Izuku turns 15), he is asked to eat a strand of hair from All Might in order to obtain One for All, just hours prior to the UA entrance exam. Izuku first uses One for All during the practical part of the exam to save fellow competitor Ochaco Uraraka from being squashed by falling rubble. In turn, she demands Izuku get some of her points for the practical, not knowing that by saving her, Izuku had passed the exam.
Izuku has received praise by critics for his character development and personality, and has also made consistent appearances in popularity polls related to the series. After Izuku unlocked and mastered the Second User of One For All's Quirk, Gearshift, his speed is incredibly enhanced, enabling him to leave the sound of his attacks far behind his movements. His speed has increased so drastically that every punch he makes delayed a sound before it can be heard. "Tomura" stated that even his eyes are completely incapable of keeping up with him at this speed. More impressively, Izuku is shown to be able to react to Tomura in a millisecond and cut his fingers off the instant they touched his face before his Decay could activate.
Interestingly, him wearing the mask now casts shadows over his eyes, which causes only his green irises to be visible. This appearing feature is very similar to All Might's look, who has his blue eyes shine through the shadows. My Hero Academia introduced the anxious green-haired boy to fans years ago and what a way he has come. These days, the My Hero Academia manga is in its endgame, so fans are beginning to look back at where their favorites began. And if you did not know, Izuku's original design is unlike anything you may have imagined.

Katsuki speculates that the bullying Izuku received for being Quirkless made him internalize that his life has less worth. Izuku will routinely break his arms for the sake of others, even if it's not completely necessary, such as demanding Shoto to unlock his full potential by using his fire side. This can make Izuku somewhat short-sighted, as he continued to break his arms, despite warnings he could permanently paralyze them and cut his hero career short. Following the Paranormal Liberation War, with Tomura Shigaraki and All For One actively targeting Izuku for his Quirk, he decided to leave U.A.
In order to deal with Gearshift's recoil, he takes on a form known as Deku Overlay, using Blackwhip to control himself, creating a more savage appearance resembling how he looked post-War. He has four Blackwhip tendrils sprouting from his back, and two more from his torso, his fingers are laced with black claws, and his entire body is snaked with Blackwhip with the mouth resembling a jaw. After forcibly transferring all the Quirks from One For All into Tomura, he drops his Overlay form, reverting himself back to his original appearance. Upon returning to the real world, he loses both of his arms, as they were decayed during his interaction with Tenko in the mental realm. However, due to the effects of Rewind courtesy of Eri's horn, his arms managed to regenerate to just before they were decayed. After slightly recovering, Izuku is given an All Might shirt from one of the refugees to wear before joining the final battle.
"At first, I made him a natural-born genius who would inadvertently insult people, but that got pretty boring," the creator said. The argument was made that Deku having an inherited Quirk would make him stand out amongst the kids of Class 1-A. This shift along with some design changes pushed Mikumo aside and made room for Deku to debut.
By wrapping himself in multiple layers of Blackwhip, Izuku's durability and endurance rise even further, as he was able to block several attacks from Tomura, using Blackwhip as a shield to withstand most of the major damage, internally and externally. This allowed him to reach and push Overhaul aside, even before the bullet was able to finish the last small part of the entire distance. With this technique, his speed is so great that, even in an exhausted state, it took the combined effort of Class-A just to catch up with him.
